Roger Pope Opticians are committed to working with organisations that support the development of eye health. We are proud to support two charities within the optical community that share our values, beliefs and commitment to educate and treat eye conditions.

In conjunction with all stakeholders within the business, we support the following charities:

  • The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers
  • The World Sight Foundation

The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers

Founded by Royal Charter in 1629, The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers is the oldest existing optical body in the world. For over four centuries, their purpose has been to support the prevention and treatment of vision impairment and to be the voice of optics in the City of London. Their reach extends beyond the City of London with members across the UK, in Europe, the US, Australia and New Zealand, working in communities where, every day, the Spectacle Makers’ craft is in evidence, helping people to understand eye health, to see better and to make the most of life. Bringing members together from a wide range of professions, the charity serves to prevent unnecessary sight loss and enhance active living; united by a commitment to better vision, better senses, for life.

The World Sight Foundation

Established in 2012 by Anthony Chignell MBE FRCS FRCOphth whose interest in “developing world” ophthalmology arose during his years as Order Hospitaller of the St. John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital. Of the various models of ophthalmic aid currently available WSF feels strongly that education is one of the best ways of improving care on a long term basis. Thus, rather than being involved with the direct provision of services, they support the teaching and training of those involved with eye care. Within the WSF there is a group of highly respected advisers both from the UK and the international community. This team of professionals helps the charity in all aspects of their work – particularly income generation and strategic planning.

Our London opticians is a proud supporter of both charities. We believe that education around eye health coupled with a commitment to prevent and treat conditions can bring joy to the lives of those affected across the UK and the wider world.
